Remember when? 1949 ... 1950 ... 1951 -- Three fellows who loved music and played trombones got together to form the Trombone Trio in college (Taylor University Fort Wayne).
Gerald Gerig, Nelson Chamberlin and Ralph Ogden came together in a fascinating way to arrange and play their own musical arrangements of Gospel Hymns.
In 1949 they were assigned to various concerts in Indiana and Gerald Gerig was their featured speaker.
In 1950 they were assigned as Field Representatives for the College and extended their concerts into Canada (Frank Logsden's Toronto Baptist Church) for a week, and other prime concerts. Occasionally Professor Dr. Ira Gerig served as their accompanist, but La Donna Sprunger moved in to become their regular accompanist during that year.
In 1951 they traveled 38 of the 40 weekends in the school year performing as many as six concerts on a weekend. They traveled with the College President (Dr. Safara A. Witmer) out West and performed concerts during the Easter Recess in Kansas and elsewhere.
Many of their concerts were fashioned for young people who might be thinking about going to college. Some of the unusual things they did was:
1. Stand in a triangle and play a number holding and operating each others' slides rather than their own.
2. Stand one trombonist on a chair with his slide pointing straight down; stand another with his slide pointing inside the trombone pointing down; and stand the third trombonist pointing his slide inside the second trombonist's slide ... and together they would play a fast number (called a knuckle-buster).
